II. Critical thinking journal entry #2: Paulo Coelho has written, “The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion.” Write about 250-300 words for your critical thinking journal in which you (1) describe who he is, (2) explain what the quote means, and (3) give an example of this truth from your own experience or your own observation. (2 points)

Paulo Coelho is one of the most successful authors in recent years, selling more than 100 million books in many countries. Due to his success in many countries his books have been translated into many different languages earning him the world record for the most translated books by a living author. His birth place was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the date of august 24,1947. Coelho parents did not have faith in his writing, they wanted him to pursue a different career. He attended law school in 1970 leaving his yearning to write, but eventually left and traveled across the world. Coelho first book was published in 1982 but he did not reach success until The Pilgrimage was published in 1987.

As long as we think something and not act on it, it will always be an idea stuck in our minds. Nothing would have ever changed in the past if we didn't have leaders that believed and spoke up or acted because of how they felt. As we are young we are told what we are and are not able to do by our parents or guardian. If we were never punished or never told not to do something we would do it not knowing that its wrong. This is similar when it comes to our world if someone does not speak out or lead by example nothing will change, because there is a lot of individuals on this earth that is afraid to speak their minds. Nobody can read minds in this world, therefore opinions will never be noticed instead just another wasted thought.

I know my younger brother looks up to me so an example of this quote in my life is me being the best positive influence and older brother that I can possibly be. In this time period there is a lot of older sibling leading their siblings in the wrong direction such as joining gangs and selling drugs. Throughout my life my brother has listened to me speak words of influence to not only him, but younger kids that I see pushing into the wrong direction. We spend a lot of time together we rap play basketball and much more. Most importantly he see how I wake up and go to work all the time and how I'm dedicated to getting my education. Now my brother is also attending college and has a part time job.
