Critical thinking journal entry #1: Heraclitus of Ephesus wrote, “Opposition brings concord: Out of discord comes the fairest harmony.” Write about 250-300 words for your critical thinking journal in which you, (1) in just a few sentences paraphrased from your source, describe who he is and how the quote reflects his own life and experiences, (2) explain what the quote means, and (3) give a specific and concrete example of this truth from your own experience or your own observation. (2 points)

Heraclitius of Ephesus was born around 535 B.C; during his life he lived in Turkey. Heraclitus describes this world as an ever living fire, because trees create fire referencing to nature and the glow from the fire represents intelligence. Heraclitus philosophies weigh in on the combination of nature and intelligence being one.  Besides certain things we know very little about Heraclitus. In his quote Heraclitus believed the world is based off of opposition. We wake up to the light and go to sleep in the dark. When we are cold we need heat and when we are sad we want to be happy. Happiness lies within the opposites in our lives, because everyone experience the same thing. Groups of people can have conversations about this world and people will agree or disagree. If there is a topic of discussion people will either agree or disagree the ones that agree will agree and the ones that do not will understand why you feel a certain way. There is a opposite to everything in this world, so there is always another opinion. All of the opposites in this world triggers in people minds different and every unique brain thinks differently. An example of Heraclitus quote in my life would have to be when my girlfriend and I wanted to go to the movies and we wanted to see different movies, but because of the times and our schedules we chose the movie that would best fit our schedules.
